Philosopher and spiritual Master, Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov (1900-1986), was a native of Bulgaria. In 1937, at the request of his Master, Peter Deunov, he came to France, where he gave the main body of his teaching. Over the course of nearly 50 years and giving more than 5000 talks, he explored human nature in its personal, social, spiritual and planetary context.

His objective was to help human beings recapture their spiritual dimension. He refers to this as their higher or divine nature. His teaching helps humans perfect and strengthen themselves and find fulfilment in the world in which they live. His constant motivation was, as he said, to be useful to his fellow human beings, to help them find within themselves the forces and qualities placed in them by the Creator, and to play their part in the creation of a global and fraternal human family – a Golden Age for humankind.

Our inner, individual work must also be seen from a universal perspective. For this opens our consciousness to the fact that we are citizens of the cosmos, members of one great human family, one universal brotherhood. We are all sons and daughters of the same Creator. The teaching of Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov invites all human beings, whatever their color, nation, religion, race, to realise a fraternal and harmonious life on earth.

Historically, the Universal White Brotherhood is a movement that began in Bulgaria by Master Peter Deunov (1864-1944). From 1900 he began to give public lectures that breathed new life into the traditional Christian doctrine. With the help of a group of students, he organizes congresses and fraternal meetings, and gradually his movement becomes known throughout Europe.

In 1937, with the approach of World War II, Peter Deunov foresaw that political unrest would lead to a ban on all spiritual associations in Bulgaria and sent his disciple Mikhaël Aïvanhov to France, where he was to preserve, develop and disseminate his teaching.

Mikhaël Aïvanhov, who later received the name of Omraam in India, continued this work by giving public lectures in France and in most European countries and then in North America. The publication of his main lectures in the form of books, gradually translated into several languages, made it possible to make this teaching known throughout the world.

In order to deepen this teaching, Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov encouraged the creation of centers of fraternal and collective life. Thus, the Universal White Brotherhood has organized itself into non-profit associations in more than 30 countries spread over the five continents. In these countries, to enable the discovery, understanding and application of this teaching, weekly meetings and congresses are regularly organized in the centers of the associations.
